High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes have been used successfully in other countries (primarily in the USA, and also in Spain and Austrailia). To date, HOV lanes have only been implemented in the UK on short sections of dual carriageway (in Leeds and South Gloucestershire)and the Highways Agency is looking to pilot an HOV lane on the strategic road network.
